Karratha Central Healthcare

The Karratha Central Healthcare (formerly GP Super Clinic) serves as a hub for general medical practice in the region. It also offers educational programmes and clinical training in regional health practices.

Between October 2012 and January 2013 we worked with the Pilbara Health Network to value engineer the project. This led to us securing the contract to build the centre, which is a single storey building designed and constructed to withstand cyclones and the aggressive climatic conditions in the Pilbara.

The Karratha Central Healthcare comprises approximately 50 rooms including consulting rooms, offices, meeting rooms and three reception areas.

The internal fit-out was designed to create a friendly, inviting and relaxed environment and respond to the cultural values of the local Aboriginal community.

The building features pre-cast concrete walls, incorporating profile patterns and perforations, designed to blend in with the Pilbara landscape.

An open carpark area, ambulance bay and external shaded walkways complete the works.

The project won the following awards at the 2017 Master Builders - Bankwest Building Excellence Awards (Kimberley - Pilbara);
  • Best Commercial/ Industrial Building $6.5 million to $20 million;
  • Innovative use of Building Materials;
  • Excellence in Recycling; and
  • Excellence in Energy Efficiency.
